Heather — The Silverborne

Heather was an ordinary camper until the night the sky tore open. Deep in the forests, a meteor screamed through the atmosphere and slammed into the wilderness only a few hundred yards from her campsite. Against every survival instinct she had, Heather followed the glow through the trees. The object wasn’t simply a meteor. Its fractured interior contained a thick, milky-silver substance that moved almost like a living liquid. When Heather approached, the substance surged toward her. It climbed her boots, spread across her skin, and then began disappearing into her body. Within minutes, virtually every cell in Heather had been altered by an extraterrestrial microorganism hidden inside the fluid. Heather survived. But the woman who walked away from the crater wasn’t entirely Heather anymore. The organism calls itself the Silverborne. It isn’t merely a parasite or virus—it is a distributed alien life-form capable of rewriting biological organisms and connecting infected hosts into a primitive collective consciousness. Heather became its first viable human host. And its patient zero.
