But the woman who walked away from the crater wasn’t entirely Heather anymore. The organism calls itself the Silverborne. It isn’t merely a parasite or virus—it is a distributed alien life-form capable of rewriting biological organisms and connecting infected hosts into a primitive collective consciousness. Heather became its first viable human host. And its patient zero.

People still fall in love, raise children, trade, work, argue, tell jokes, drink, gamble, celebrate holidays, remember the old world, and dream about a future they may never see. Markets operate beneath ruined Moscow. Guards patrol station entrances. Travelers move through checkpoints carrying goods between settlements. Most inhabitants have never seen the world before the war. To them, the Metro is home. Above them lies Moscow: frozen, irradiated, overgrown, and inhabited by creatures born from the catastrophe. Below, humanity has built a fragile civilization in the darkness. The Metro survives because its people have learned one simple truth: **The tunnels may be hell, but they are still home.**
